GOING GREEN
In an effort to be environmentally responsible, Gulf Coast Home Care Conference is trying to reduce the amount of paper we use at the conference. Attendees will receive a binder containing the conference schedule, session evaluations, exhibit hall layout and sponsor/exhibitor guide. Session handouts will not be printed and distributed; attendees and exhibitors will have the opportunity to download the session handouts before, during and after the conference from the HomeCare Association of Louisiana website.

Safety Survey!
Homecare providers,
The link below leads to a survey that aims to make visiting staff nurses safer as they travel to and enter patient’s homes across the nation. A homecare/hospice nurse was the victim of a sexual assault Louisiana in January 2012. That event has heightened the need to be vigilant about the safety and awareness of homecare and hospice visiting staff. In March 2012 a half day summit was held by the Louisiana Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (LMHPCO)and the HomeCare Association of Louisiana (HCLA). The organizations have teamed up with Pam Albers, LCSW, BACS, a researcher and an expert in this field, in an effort to gather information from a survey of visiting staff. This environmental scan intends to lead to enriched staff education, policies, procedures, and other endeavors that will focus on staff safety. The survey is anonymous and the information will be used only for educational purposes. Please distribute this link to our visiting staff to help assure that we get robust participation and more sound research to will lead to enhance safety efforts for home care and hospice across the nation.

ORASI Announcement Document

Dear HCLA Members,
Tomorrow, May 8th, members of the HomeCare Association of Louisiana, and agencies in 28 other state associations, will receive a link to an online ‘readiness assessment’ to evaluate and facilitate your organization’s preparedness for healthcare reform. This confidential self-assessment addresses new payment systems, reporting requirements and outcomes measures expected in health reform.
In making this survey available we hope to accomplish the following:
- offer members a self-evaluation of their own health reform readiness;
- benchmark organizational readiness by member agencies, states and regions;
- determine areas of healthcare reform interest to better plan education offerings activities; and
- to position the 28 participating state associations to better advocate for their member agencies.
Although the Affordable Care Act remains in dispute in the Supreme Court, the underlying social, political, economic trends, and drivers that led to the passage of the Act will remain unabated in one fashion or another. No doubt, we can expect the current momentum for change to continue. It would benefit you to become familiar with the legislative and regulatory issues included in the online survey.
Again, the survey is being made available to the member agencies of 28 participating state home health associations. It was created, and is being conducted, by Artower Advisory Services, LLC. All individual responses will be kept strictly confidential. Following completion of the survey you will receive a report from Artower with helpful suggestions on how you might look to better position your agency to be successful under healthcare reform.
If you have any questions regarding the survey or would like additional information on how the HomeCare Association of Louisiana is working to help our members prepare for Healthcare Reform, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at 800-283-4252.
