Gentiva Purchases United of Baton Rouge & Odyssey Hospice

Gentiva, Inc., purchased Baton Rouge based United Home Care Services in late May. The owner of United was Ron Strother and the agency had been run by Ron’s daughter Amy for a period of time. United had locations in Prairieville, Lafayette, Eunice, Lake Charles and Monroe. (Not to be confusing there is another United Home Care owned by Danny Jones located in West Monroe and Minden. Also United Home Health of Shreveport, owned by Kareem Meiki is a third company named United.)

This acquisition is Gentiva’s second in Louisiana, as they purchased Mid State Home Health from Mark Brown in June of 2009.

Gentiva also announced their intent to purchase Odyssey Healthcare, a very large hospice company, for $1 billion. The new deal would create the largest home health/hospice provider in the US with operations in 30 states and an initial census of 14,000 patients.
